Upcoming Event
Saturday, January 26, 2019 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Decades of war have taken a heavy toll on Afghanistan’s natural environment. In this uplifting book, Dehgan, an evolutionary biologist and former chief scientist of USAID, recounts how international organizations and local Afghans have found common cause in restoring the land, wildlife, and the human culture that grew from them. His story begins in 2006 and includes reports of international teams working unarmed in some of the most dangerous territory on Earth as well as descriptions of rare and beautiful species such as the iconic snow leopard. Since the project began it has created the country's first national park, completed the first extensive wildlife surveys in thirty years, and worked to stop the poaching of Afghanistan’s endangered animals.
