Adam Valen Levinson - The Abu Dhabi Bar Mitzvah: Fear and Love in the Modern Middle East — in conversation with Shana Knizhnik

Upcoming Event
Sunday, November 19, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Levinson, a journalist for outlets including The Paris Review, Al Jazeera, and Haaretz, has specialized in telling the human stories behind the conflicts of many of the world’s hot-spots. He’s learned that to conquer fear and resist succumbing to paranoia, you have to face what you think you’re afraid of. His illuminating and surprisingly funny book about coping with the anxieties raised by 9/11 and the War on Terror documents his visits to Abu Dhabi, Afghanistan, Aleppo, Somalia, Oman, and Tahrir Square. He approached each place with an eager curiosity, an open mind, and good humor. What he found was often much different than what he’d been led to expect, and his book affirms the power of compassion to bridge cultures.

Levinson will be in conversation with Shana Knizhnik, Dunn Fellow at the ACLU and co-author of the best-selling Notorious RBG.
