Adam Minter - Secondhand: Travels in the New Global Garage Sale — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Monday, November 18, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

NOTE: This event, originally scheduled for our Connecticut Ave location at the same date and time, will now be taking place at our Wharf store.

In Junkyard Planet Minter, a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion, traced the often-surprising path of the trash we simply throw “away.” His new book is an equally revealing investigation of what happens to all the still usable items we clean out. Once they’re donated, they might end up anywhere, from thrift stores in the U.S. to vintage shops in Tokyo, flea markets in Southeast Asia, and used-goods businesses in Ghana. Minter examines all facets of this multi-billion dollar global industry, including the marketing practices that cause us to keep loading up again after each purge of our household items.
