The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice has been the inspiration for countless works of art, operas, ballets, and films. This program will introduce participants to playwright Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice --a stunningly theatrical reimagining of the myth that celebrates the transcendent power of love and loss. This program with Mary Hall Surface, a Helen Hayes award-winning director, will focus on both the play and the rich creative process of her bringing it to life for D.C.’s Constellation Theatre Company. Explore other poetic interpretations of the myth that especially inspired Ruhl; discover the images and impulses that shaped Surface’s directorial concept for the play; then try on Ruhl’s exquisite language in small group readings of the text. One Class on Tuesday, May 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Class cancelled.

Class participants are encouraged to attend performance and post-show conversation with director at Constellation Theatre Company on Sunday, May 17, 2 p.m..* *Course participants will receive a code for 10% off for the performance. While we hope participants can attend the May 17th performance, this one-time use code (two tickets per participant) can be used for any performance prior to May 18th.
