P&P Young Writers Slam at the Wharf bookstore location

Come and join us at the Wharf Store for a fun-filled evening of creative writing and poetry! This January we are celebrating young DMV writers who are being published by the 16 Rivers Press in thier new collection in patnership with Writetopia. Not only will you have the chance to hear these exciting young writers, but you'll also have the opportunity to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the new Wharf store. So mark the date on your calendar and get ready for an evening filled with artistic expression and community.

The writers joining us for the evening will be:

Madeleine Armstrong is currently a senior at Mercy High School in Baltimore with plans to pursue an English Major in college. Her written works span the form of short stories, poems, and novels, commonly in speculative fiction. When she's not writing, she's singing pre-professionally, acting, or reading. She values creative expression, and pursues it in multiple forms.

Sophia Hall is the Youth Poet Laureate of Washington DC. This 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholar can be found wearing a frog bucket hat and Van Gogh socks. Her writing has been recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the Library of Congress, and several other organizations. Her poem “Multiple Choice,” won grand prize in the Sixteen River Press’s Youth Poetry Contest and was subsequently nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Sophia is also the Art and Social Justice Fellow at Strathmore Arts Center and Woolly Mammoth Theater Company. Her haiku, selected from 2900-plus submissions from 71 countries, have been displayed in prominent locations in the Washington DC Business District. She posts her writing and artwork on her instagram account @estelleuphoria.

Vicky Zhou (he/she/they) is a senior attending Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. They consider New York and Shanghai their home. In his free time, he likes to do ceramics and make leather mushrooms. Can't wait to see you!
