Join us for a discussion of first account narratives by a Basque transvestite nun who traveled to the New World in the early XVII century, an enslaved man in Cuba who lived during the period of independence from Spain, and a poor Brazilian woman living in the slums of São Paulo, Brazil, in the late 1950s. These marginalized people’s words and experiences will serve as starting points to learn about the history of Latin America and how gender prescriptions operated in the region from the early 1600s to mid 20thCentury. Three Mondays: Oct. 7, 14, 21, 6- 8 p.m.
