While novels often get more press, short stories are the foundation of the science fiction genre. For this class we’ll read New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People of Color, winner of the 2020 Locus Award for best anthology. The collection presents stories by a variety of voices from a range of speculative genres. In this seminar-style, discussion-based class, we’ll consider how their world-building and story-telling expand our ability to imagine possible pasts and futures. We will read and discuss between five and six short stories per class. Three Wednesdays: October 7, 14, 21, from 6 pm to 8 pm Online Class.
