ONLINE CLASS: Sally Rooney from Page to Screen (2076)

Two Thursdays: June 11 & 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET.

Price:
$80.00
It's hard to go anywhere these days without seeing one of Irish author Sally Rooney's brilliant creations. From her debut novel Conversations with Friends, to her bestselling 2019 book Normal People, to the now ubiquitous Hulu adaptation, Rooney's influence on literature, television, and pop culture is impossible to ignore.

In this class, we'll first dissect Conversations with Friends, a darkly comic novel about friendships, adultery, and the pleasures and dangers of youth. Then, the second session will focus on Normal People, both the book and the Hulu series. We'll explore the similarities and differences, discuss the role of setting in both works, and take a deep dive into how the written word is transferred onto the screen: What is lost? What is gained? How does each medium shape our perspectives and interpretations of the text? And ultimately, which format do we prefer? Two Thursdays: June 11 & 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET. Online class.
