Lecture and Discussion. This live class will be recorded and available for later viewing.
“You must change your life”. Join us this winter as we dive into the work of Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926), who wrote the above quote and is acknowledged one of the most important writers of the 19th and 20th Century. We’ll discuss why his works are considered not just enduring but immortal. Rilke captured what Robert Hass calls “the huge nakedness and poverty of human longing”, and many consider his writing to be the most lyrical of any poet’s. Rilke sought to find in art a way to transform the emptiness of the human experience.
