ONLINE CLASS: Memoir and Personal Essay Workshop (2051) - SOLD OUT

Four Mondays, starting July 27 and August 3, 10, 17 from 10 a.m. to Noon. Online Class.

Price:
$160.00

This workshop will home in on the aspects of craft and habits of introspection that writers use to elevate their good drafts to compelling essays.

Writers will submit to the class completed drafts between 800 and 2,000 words. In collaborative discussion, we will determine what work will turn these essays into pieces readers will connect with, reread, think about later, and share with their friends. We will explore crucial elements of personal writing—craft, authenticity, and voice—via lecture, example, practice, and feedback.

We will look “under the hood” of masterful essays to see what makes them work. How do they connect what happens in one little life with something universal? What makes them, as Rebecca Solnit has written, a “place where the experiential and the categorical, the firsthand and the researched, converse, question, or just dance in each other’s arms for a while”?

Class size is limited to 12 to maximize individual attention and feedback. Dates: Four Mondays, starting July 27 and August 3, 10, 17 from 10 a.m. to Noon. Onlne Class.
