Inspire Your Writing Through Visual Art (1865)

Two Thursdays: July 26 & August 2, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

$75 (10% off for members)

Visual art can offer rich inspiration for writing, just as writing can deepen your connection to a work of art. Join Mary Hall Surface, the instructor of the National Gallery of Art’s popular Writing Salon, for a close look at two paintings: Family of Saltimbanques by Pablo Picasso and The Farm by Joan Miro. The first class will meet at the National Gallery of Art to engage with the art through multi-sensory exploration and word sketching. The second class will meet at the bookstore to delve further into the paintings and the ideas they inspire through diverse writing prompts. The class includes small and whole group reflection. Discover a new relationship to masterpieces of art as you stimulate your writing process and skills. Designed for all levels of writers.

Directions to National Gallery of Art:

The museum opens at 10 a.m.  Please enter through the East Building Doors (on 4th Street).  Once through security, please meet at the chairs to the left of the information booth.  Please bring something to write on and with.
