Finding Her Voice: Empower Young Women Through Writing (17116)

Young women in this class will use the art of writing to enhance self-awareness while building skills in creative self-expression. Together we will explore the art of writing in several genres and lay the foundation for workshop. The class is designed to help strengthen each young woman’s authentic voice and deepen her belief in her own creative intelligence.

Recommended ages 13-17 -- students referred to the course by teachers, tutors, or mentors can attend for free! Teachers, tutors, and mentors doing the referring should email us at with the intended students' name, an email address where we can reach the student before the class date, and the name of the school/organization through which you work with the student. Sara Burnett is a writer, educator, and consultant. Her poems have appeared in Barrow Street, Poet Lore, and The Cortland Review; her chapbook Mother Tongue is forthcoming in 2018 from Dancing Girl Press. She holds a MFA in poetry from the University of Maryland, a MA in English Literature from the University of Vermont, and is a recipient of Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference scholarships to support her writing. A former public high school teacher, she designs curriculum and also writes on education equity She lives in Silver Spring, M.D. with her husband and daughter.
