Teachers & Librarians

We are experts in books for children and teens. Consult with us about creating, building and maintaining your library or classroom collection. We’ll help you match books to your curriculum and recommend appropriate books based on age, genre, and/or author.

We’ll also introduce you to new titles. Look for our bi-annual review of favorite new titles.

Our Children & Teens Department staff offers these services to schools, teachers, and librarians:

Affiliate Program

Politics & Prose Bookstore is delighted to support your school throughout the year with its affiliate program. It’s easy to set up and maintain, and a great way to raise money for your school.

Politics & Prose will donate 5% of online purchases when customers use the link from your school’s website or from P&P’s website. In addition, you can request specific titles for your classroom or library.

Have your school’s web development officer meet with Politics and Prose staff to create a link to P&P from your school’s website. This will maximize exposure to parents and the community.

School Book Fairs

Politics & Prose hosts many school book fairs every year. Schools receive 20% of the book fair sales they make. In addition, students and parents may buy books to donate to their classrooms and libraries. Please contact Heidi Yoon for more information.

School & Educator Discounts

Schools receive a 20% discount on most titles. A school may set up a store account. We take special orders for schools and teachers.

Politics & Prose offers special benefits to educators employed by accredited pre-K through grade 12 public, private, and parochial schools in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Tutors and educational consultants are not eligible for educator discounts. Upon enrollment and annual renewal, educators will be required to provide a valid school or institutional photo ID or pay stub.

Educators are eligible for complimentary store membership which they may use for personal purchases. Our member program is a frequent buyer program. After purchasing 20 items, the member receives a voucher worth 10% of the cumulative total of those items. Membership also entitles the educator to 20% discounts during the four member sales throughout the year.

Purchases for classroom use are charged separately at a 20% discount.

Monthly Book Talks

On the third Wednesday evening of every month, Children & Teens staff meets with librarians and educators to discuss new titles. New participants are welcome. Please email Mary Alice Garber for more information.

Summer Reading Lists

Students get 10% off summer reading list books. We’ll keep a copy of your list on file for your students and their parents. We also can help you create your reading lists.

Attend Author & Illustrator Events

The Children & Teens Department hosts many events every year. Award-winning authors and illustrators speak to school groups and individuals about their work. (Illustrators often draw as they speak.) Events end with Q&A and a book signing. School groups register in advance and receive 20% off selected titles on the day of the event. Attend our recently introduced series of panels discussing various aspects of children’s literature including subjects such as the role of graphic novels and the significance of picture books. School groups must register in advance by making reservations with Margaret Orto, our children's events coordinator. Participating student groups receive 20% off selected titles on the day of the event. Visit our children & teens' events calendar for upcoming programs.

Classes for Students & Educators

Join us for classes with top-notch educators and experts in their fields. We offer summer and Spring Break classes for children. Past classes included “Comics Jam and Scribbler’s Cabal” and “Dungeons and Dragons.” Year-round adult classes range from writing workshops to courses on children’s literature.
