The Mommiad (Paperback)
Sky Gilbert's intimate and affirming play explores the bond he shared with his mother and the toll that alcohol and dementia took on her life. Told both in Gilbert's own voice and through that of his alter ego, Jane, The Mommiad is lyrical and tragic and true, an artist's self-reflective endeavor to turn one woman's life into an artistic experience.
Sky Gilbert is a writer, director, and drag queen extraordinaire. He was co-founder and artistic director of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (North America's largest gay and lesbian theatre) for eighteen years, where he produced over twenty-five of his own plays. Sky is an associate professor and holds a University Research Chair in Creative Writing and Theatre Studies at the School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph.
