It was a time in Indiana when small towns were still alive, when milk came to the door in bottles, ice came to the kitchen in tongs, and WW II was vivid in the mind.  It was a place where a boy could fish, swim and hunt, could have the same teachers in school his mother had, and where he knew all the dogs.
