This immensely practical handbook is the work of a musician, composer, and teacher at the Eastman School of Music. The first book to cover the topic, it presents a broad introduction to horn study, practice, and performance.
Verne Reynolds was born in Lyons, Kansas in 1926. He began study of the violin and piano at an early age and at thirteen began playing the horn. He holds degrees in composition from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin, and has studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He is a former member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the American Woodwind Quintet, and from 1959-1968 was principal horn of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Reynolds has been a member of the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Indiana University, and, until his retirement in 1995, served for thirty-six years as professor of horn at the Eastman School of Music, where he was a founding member of the Eastman Brass Quintet.
