Involved in the restoration of an old roadhouse theatre in Sheridan, Wyoming, I once took up the responsibility of adapting great works of literature for theatrical use. On the educational side, I was charged with going to the public schools and discussing the books with the students so that they could then go see the stage performance and perhaps get more out of the production.

I think one of the most transcendental moments in my writing career was at The Wyoming Girl’s School, a home for court-ordered delinquents. Imagine discussing the story of the ultimate social outsider authored by a seventeen-year-old girl… They had the book down cold; even at their tender age, they’d lived it.
