Murch Elementary School has partnered with REACH Incorporated, a local 501(c)(3), to build a resource library for students and their tutors. Here's how you can help!

REACH has supplied a list of desired books. (Politics & Prose would especially like to acknowledge Penguin and Random House for their generous support in providing several items from this list.) Click any of the following categories to view that section of the wishlist.

 Picture Books        Biographies
Early Chapter Books and Elementary Fiction        Sports
 Poetry        History and General Nonfiction

1) While looking at one of the lists, you may click on book titles to see more details about the books, and then use your web browser's "page back" function to return to the list.

2) Pick items to donate by adjusting the quantity and pressing the "Add to cart" button. Often REACH has indicated that they would like multiple copies of a particular book. The wishlist system automatically keeps track of the quantity that have been donated.

3) After choosing, you may "page back" to revisit the list and add more books, adjust quantities, or press the "Checkout" button to purchase your donations.

4) Select "Instore pickup" when purchasing, as Murch Book Drive coordinators will pick the books up from the store. Shipping fees will only be incurred if Politics & Prose is also shipping additional items directly to you.

REACH Incorporated works to improve reading skills, across ages, in District of Columbia elementary schools.

Recognizing that 87% of DC Public School students do not read at grade level when they enter 9th grade, REACH Incorporated has developed a unique system to help kids learn to read. REACH Incorporated hires and trains adolescents to tutor younger students and has achieved dramatic improvements with an innovative, three-pronged approach:

  • Training: Two days each week, teachers guide tutors in preparing lesson plans grounded in the core components of literacy development.
  • Tutoring: On two alternating days, tutors provide reading instruction to elementary school students in need of support.
  • Compensation: Tutors are paid for program participation.
