Teachers and Librarians

Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year!

We are very excited about the fall Children's Events schedule. You may pick one up in the Children's Department.

Politics & Prose

is a community resource. Our expert Children and Teens' Department staff offers these services to schools, teachers, and librarians.

We are Children and Teens' Book Experts

Consult with us about creating, building and maintaining your library or classroom collection. We’ll help you match books to your curriculum and recommend appropriate books based on age, genre, and/or author. We’ll also introduce you to new titles. Look for our bi-annual review of favorite new titles.

Join the Teacher Discount Program

Politics & Prose would like to take this opportunity to clarify our teacher discount policy and to ask each of you to update your teacher identification in our files.

We offer year-round discounts for schools, teachers and librarians (preschool through grade 12). Librarians in the tri-state public library systems are included in this program. Educators receive a 20% discount on books for classroom and library use and a 10% discount on all personal purchases.

Next time you are in the store, please show professional identification to apply or to update your existing file. You will then be eligible for educator’s discounts during the entire year. Click here when ordering online to apply the discount.

Place Special Orders for Individual Books and Classroom Quantities

Schools may set up store accounts, and we take special orders for schools and teachers.

Attend Monthly Book Talks

On the third Wednesday evening of every month, Children and Teens’ staff meet with librarians and educators to discuss new titles. New participants are welcome. Please email Mary Alice Garber or call her at 202-364-1919 for more information.

Send Us Your Class and Summer Reading Lists

We’ll keep a copy on file for your students and parents. They get 10% off list books. We also can help you create your reading lists.

Hold a School Book Fair

Politics & Prose hosts many school book fairs every year. Schools receive 20% of participating sales made storewide during the fair. In addition, students and parents may buy books to donate to their classrooms and libraries. Please contact Heidi Powell for more information.

Attend Author and Illustrator Events

The Children's Department hosts many events every year. Award-winning authors and illustrators speak to school groups and individuals about their work. Illustrators often draw as they speak. Events end with a Q&A and a book signing. School groups must register in advance by making reservations with Gussie Lewis, our children's events coordinator. She can be reached by phone at 202-364-1919 or by email at glewis@politics-prose.com. Participating student groups receive 20% off selected titles on the day of the event. Visit our children and teens' events calendar for upcoming programs. We also provide recordings of our author events.
