Autumn - Karl Ove Knausgaard

Staff Pick
This slender volume is quite a departure for Knausgaard, whose six-volume epic My Struggle centered on a difficult father-son relationship. Here, a devoted father describes everyday objects for his unborn daughter. In one, he writes of a family photograph, everything about their lives stripped away, so that what remains is “what we ourselves don’t see… that our lives are written in our faces and our bodies, but in a language so foreign we don’t even know it is a language.” Everything from buttons to fingers to rubber boots and oil tankers feels remarkable and strange.
