Do you wish you could go to France, but can’t get away right now?
Are you planning a trip to France, or some other French-speaking place?
Are you simply an unabashed Francophile who loves any chance to speak French?
Parler D.C. is a chance to practice informal French conversation in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.
Whether you are nearly fluent, or are just starting out in your study of the French language, this is an opportunity to meet with other Francophiles (or anyone who wants to speak French) to talk about life, art, politics, books, film, the weather—whatever strikes the group’s collective fancy—while brushing up on speaking and comprehension skills.
There is no required level of language proficiency. Participants are encouraged to bring dictionaries, phrase books, and topics for discussion. The idea is to improve your French, whatever your level of proficiency, by listening to and practicing with others as we immerse ourselves in the joy of speaking one of the most beautiful languages in the world.
Facilitator Janet Hulstrand speaks French fluently. She will guide the discussions, provide vocabulary as needed, and correct only the most egregious errors of grammar and pronunciation as the conversation rolls along. The idea is to actually speak and to share ideas in French--not to speak perfectly.
