While focusing primarily on editing, revising and organizing research and chapters, this interactive workshop will also offer some writing prompts. You are welcome to focus on previously drafted essays or chapters or use the prompts to begin new pieces. We will closely read selected essays from The Art of the Personal Essay, edited by Phillip Lopate. Students will receive feedback from peers as well as from the instructor. In the final class, we will discuss weaving together the essays and working toward a complete memoir, as well as strategies for publication.
If you’ve taken writing workshops before and have starting drafting creative non-fiction essays that can be used for a longer piece, then you are welcome to take this level II class.
