The Uncorked Reading Series with The Book Maven — in The Den

Upcoming Event
Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 8:00 pm

Surprise! Author Alice McDermott will be popping in to join the Uncorked Reading Series discussion of her work in The Den at Politics & Prose.

Book critic and social media presence Bethanne Patrick will host an evening focused on the work of the acclaimed novelist, and McDermott will round out the night by taking your questions. McDermott, the author of seven novels, including Charming Billy, which won the National Book Award in 1998, is a three-time finalist for the Pulitzer fiction prize and a professor at Johns Hopkins University. Her latest novel, The Ninth Hour (on sale Sept. 19) is a look at early twentieth-century Catholic Brooklyn, and how one family's tragedy leads to generational trauma.

Patrick will give a brief overview of McDermott's work, from plots to characters to themes, inviting participants to share their thoughts as well as to ask questions. There will be plenty of time for meeting other booklovers—and for sharing a few drinks on a late summer evening, too. Please join us!
