Stuart H. Newberger - The Forgotten Flight: International Terrorism, Diplomacy and the Pursuit of Justice

Upcoming Event
Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm

In his first book, Newberger, a senior partner at the international law firm Crowell & Moring, draws on his work representing the families of the seven Americans killed in UTA Flight 772, which was blown up by a suitcase bomb on September 19, 1989. Like the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, just ten months earlier, the bombing of Flight 722 was a terrorist attack ordered by Qaddafi and undertaken by Libyan agents. Unlike the Lockerbie tragedy, however, this one received little attention, and Newberger fills out the record with a detailed analysis of the crime’s planning and execution, shows how the French investigators traced the attack to Qaddafi, and offers insight into the prosecution of international crimes.

Newberger will be in conversation with Kai Bird, a Pulitzer-winning journalist and historian and author of books including The Good Spy.
