SOLD OUT: Ron Chernow - Grant — at Sixth & I

Upcoming Event
Monday, October 23, 2017 at 7:00 pm

One of today’s premier biographers, Chernow started his career by winning the National Book Award for The House of Morgan. More recently he won the Pulitzer for Washington, while his 2004 Hamilton earned the American History Book Prize and inspired the hit musical, for which Chernow served as historical consultant. His seventh book is a comprehensive life of Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885), a man misunderstood in his own time and after. Complex and often contradictory, Grant provided distinguished service in the Mexican War yet resigned from the Army in disgrace—then rose quickly through the ranks in the Civil War, where he proved a masterful military strategist. His two-term presidency was scandal-ridden, yet he worked hard to crush the Ku Klux Klan and advance equal rights for African Americans. Later, with Mark Twain’s guidance, he wrote memoirs that have become the gold standard for the genre. .
