Slavko Goldstein - 1941: The Year That Keeps Returning

Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm

When the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia in April 1941, Goldstein, then age thirteen, lost his father, a leftwing bookseller. The Ustasha unleashed a tremendous bloodbath, killing tens of thousands of Jews, Gypsies, and Serbs in Croatia. Then, in the 1990s, this ethnic violence exploded again. Goldstein’s family history is his country’s story, as well as an investigation of how peaceful neighbors can so brutally savage one another.
