Seema Reza - When the World Breaks Open & Teri Youmans Grimm - Becoming Lyla Dore
Founded in 1994, Los Angeles-based Red Hen Press is committed to publishing work of literary excellence, supporting diversity, and actively promoting literacy by bringing writers into schools to run writing workshops and to read and discuss their work. Join us for a reading by two accomplished Red Hen writers. In her non-linear memoir, Reza, who won the 2015 Col John Gioia Patriot Award by USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore for her work with service members, describes her personal experiences as a mother and wife, and vividly evokes moments in her professional capacity running a hospital arts program to help military veterans heal both physically and psychologically. In her second book of poetry, Grimm, author of Dirt Eaters and a writing teacher in the University of Nebraska MFA program, evokes the dramatic rise and fall of a silent film star.
