Latiff, a retired U.S. Air Force Major General, is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the role of technology in war and intelligence. His survey of new developments in combat technology is a dazzling presentation of enhanced human soldiers, robot combatants, hypersonic vehicles, and more. But the cost of these highly efficient means of conducting war is potentially as great as their benefit if we don’t fully understand their power; changing the way we fight war, these new technologies must also change the way we think about war. Directing his argument to civilians as well as military planners and soldiers, Latiff, director of Intelligence Community Programs at George Mason’s School of Engineering, gives a realistic and rational appraisal of war in the immediate future.
