Guidelines for Rick Riordan Event

The event will take place in the parking lot behind Politics & Prose and begin promptly at 5 p.m. The parking lot will be closed to traffic for the day. Mr. Riordan will do a short presentation about THE RED PYRAMID, book one of his new series, The Kane Chronicles. He will then sign books according to the signing line guidelines below.

Purchase Your Book

The Kane Chronicles: THE RED PYRAMID was released on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, two days before the event. Customers with pre-purchased vouchers may exchange them for copies of the book in the store. If you have not yet purchased the book, you may buy one over the telephone (202-364-1919) or in the store on Thursday, May 6, the day of the event, while supplies last.

With the purchase of a book, or presentation of your voucher, you will also receive a color-coded ticket which indicates eligibility to participate in the book-signing event, as well as the signing group to which he or she is assigned. Purchasing early earns you an earlier position on the day of the event.

You must have your color-coded ticket with you to get in the signing line.

Signing Line

The signing line will be organized in groups of 75, by color.

Color-coded tickets will be distributed at Politics & Prose with the purchase of:

- any Rick Riordan book or
- a voucher for - or purchase of - his new book The Red Pyramid

The Fine Print

Tickets will only be distributed with the purchase of a book by Rick Riordan.

Each individual wishing to get a book (or books) signed must have a ticket.

Color-coded tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR COLOR-CODED TICKET WITH YOU ENTER THE SIGNING LINE.

Color groups will be invited into the signing line in the following order:

blue, red, green, orange, violet, yellow, white, pink, and others as needed.

Tickets will also be available, on Thursday, May 6th, the day of the signing, with the purchase of a book.

Mr. Riordan will personalize 1 book per person and sign a total of 3 books per person.

If you cannot attend, it is possible to purchase books and leave them to be signed and picked up later. Please leave your book for Mr. Riordan's signature by 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 if you cannot attend the event.

Mr. Riordan is a very friendly man, and promises to sign everyone’s books. Please feel free to go off and get a snack or hang out until it is time for your color group to line up. Remember, the time that he is spending with the people in line ahead of you reflects the time that he will spend with you when it is your turn.

All our in-store events are free and open to the public. All event titles are 20% off for members during the month in which the author appears at the store. Click here for directions. There is ample parking available in the lot behind the store and in the surrounding neighborhood.

If you can't come to an event and still want an autographed copy of the book, you may purchase titles in advance either in the store, over the phone (202.364.1919 or 1.800.722.0790), or through our website. When buying online, simply use the checkout comments field to indicate that you would like us to request the author's signature at our event before shipping it to you. Event recordings on CD or MP3 are also available in the store and online.
