Dickson, author of The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, The Hidden Language of Baseball, The Joy of Keeping Score, and many other books on history, language, and sports, follows his Casey Award-winning biography of Bill Veeck with a look at the long and colorful life of the three-time all-star shortstop, Leo Durocher (1905-1991). Using primary sources and interviews with those who knew him, Dickson follows Durocher through many of the key moments in the history of baseball. First as a player then as a manager, Durocher was at the center of the action in and out of the park, and Dickson uses his firecracker subject as a lens to illuminate new aspects of the racial integration of the nation’s pastime.
