Orhan Pamuk
At last available in English, Silent House (Knopf, $26.95), the second novel by the 2006 Nobel winner Orhan Pamuk takes place in 1980 as Turkey is on the cusp of momentous changes. While a military coup hovers, the widowed Fatma hosts her visiting grandchildren. The ancestral house is falling apart, and the dreams of the younger generation seem in no better shape: the frustrated historian drinks, the misfit schoolboy dreams of escape to America, and the politically minded, on both right and left, wonder what lies ahead.
Due to unforeseen circumstances our event with Orhan Pamuk on November 19th has been cancelled. If you purchased tickets you will be automatically reimbursed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions please call 202-364-1919 or email events@politics-prose.com.
