Object Lessons series panel: Kim Adrian - Sock, Margret Grebowicz - Whale Song, and Christopher J. Lee - Jet Lag, moderated by Kati Stevens

Upcoming Event
Saturday, January 27, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Published in association with The Atlantic, Object Lessons is a series of short, smartly designed books that offer insight about ordinary things and celebrate the charm of objects we often take for granted. This sampler of recent highlights from the series features Kim Adrian, recipient of a P.E.N. New England Discover Award and author of The 27th Letter of the Alphabet, who finds in the lowly sock an anatomy lesson, a physics primer, a love letter, a weapon, a fetish, and a fashion statement. Margret Grebowicz, associate professor of philosophy at Goucher College and the author of The National Park to Come, explores cetacean communication as a lens on the wider issues of environmental degradation and the social life of both whales and humans. In his meditation on jet lag, Christopher J. Lee, a widely published writer and associate professor of history at Lafayette College, sees the malady as the epitome of today’s accelerated, technological moment.

Moderating the panel will be Kati Stevens, Public Affairs Specialist at the United States Environmental Protection Agency and a fiction writer whose work has appeared in The Hairpin and The Billfold.
