Cohen wrote The New York Times “Link by Link” column from 2007 to 2015 and is a frequent commentator on issues related to the role of technology in the wider culture. His first book focuses on Silicon Valley and its increasingly disruptive role in the country’s political and intellectual life. Starting with Stanford a century ago, Cohen charts the growing influence of independent, market-oriented tech entrepreneurs such as Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and Mark Zuckerberg. He cites their disturbing tendency to push aside news for the sake of entertainment and to bypass unions, libraries, public schools, common courtesy, and government for more efficient market-based internet exchanges.
