Lea Carpenter - Eleven Days — at MLK Central Library
Jul 30 2013 7:00 pm
Jul 30 2013 8:00 pm
Join Lea Carpenter as she discusses war, love, and the bond between mother and son. Her debut novel, Eleven Days (Knopf, $24.95), is powerful, suspenseful, and contemplative as it addresses our most basic questions about war and family. Carpenter will be joined in conversation with David Silverman, Lt. Cmdr. (ret) Navy SEALs and CEO & Co-founder of the McChrystal Group. This event, co-sponsored by the DC Public Library, is free and open to the public. Books will be for sale at the event.
“A deeply affecting story about a mother and a son that
attests to the debut of an extraordinarily gifted writer…Ms. Carpenter has
written a novel that maps—much the way that Jayne Anne Phillips’s classic Machine
Dreams and Bobbie Ann Mason’s In Country did—the fallout that war
has not just on soldiers, who put their lives on the line, but also on their
families, who wait anxiously back home.”
