Katherine Applegate - Wishtree

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 10:30 am

Trees tell stories, in the rings on their trunks and in the spirits whispering in their leaves. This story chronicles a community through the perspective of the neighborhood “wishtree”, where individuals pin their hopes and dreams. When a new family moves into the neighborhood, the tree understands the importance of battling prejudice with acceptance and unity. But can the community learn these powerful lessons too? Applegate ties her love for environmental awareness with topical themes of immigration, community, and overcoming the fear of the “other” through love in this much-needed story in today’s complicated world. Ages 9-12

Since Wishtree shares strong themes of acceptance and community, Katherine Applegate is asking that each stop on her book tour partners with a local charity in timing with their event. Politics and Prose has teamed up with Turning the Page, whose “mission is to link DC public schools, families and our community so that, together, we can ensure students receive valuable educational resources and a high-quality public education.” We are asking you to consider purchasing an additional copy of Wishtree to be donated to an underserved school. Additional information about Turning the Page is attached to this order form for your consideration.

To donate a copy of Wishtree to Turning the Page, please adjust your purchase quantity to reflect any additional copies and make a note in the comments field of your intention to donate and how many copies of your purchased books should be donated.
