Judith Viorst’s well-loved rascal, Alexander, has gone through a lot since he had his Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day all the way back in 1972. This time around he’s trying to avoid consequences—like the ones his mom told him were coming for eating a whole box of jelly donuts. Alexander doesn’t like consequences. But the only way to avoid them, being the Best Boy Ever, means that Alexander can’t do a whole lot of things that he does like. Maybe somewhere between consequences and being the best boy ever all the time there’s a balance to be struck. Ages 5 – 8 (Atheneum)
