Jonathan A. Knee - Class Clowns: How the Smartest Investors Lost Billions in Education

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm

In his third book, Knee, a professor at Columbia Business School and author of The Accidental Investment Banker, analyzes the problematic relationship between business and education reform. He details four projects that had good shots at success, but that failed: Rupert Murdoch’s billion-dollar push to reshape elementary education through technology, Michael Milken’s twenty-year effort with Knowledge Universe, Chris Whittle’s EdisonLearning, and Houghton Mifflin’s textbook initiative. Comparing these disappointments with the rarer successes, Knee distills a dozen guidelines to help investors, teachers, and activists succeed in future efforts.

Knee will be in conversation with Katherine Bradley, founding chair of the CityBridge Education board and the president of CityBridge Foundation, which she co-founded in 1994 to find, incubate, and invest in the most promising practices in public education.
