Jim Shepard - The Book of Aron

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

A National Book Award finalist for his collection, Like You’d Understand, Anyway, which won the Story Prize, Shepard has taught film and writing at Williams College for many years. His seventh novel is a powerful statement about history and compassion, set in the Warsaw Ghetto. Narrated by Aron, a boy who loses first his home and then his family, the story pays tribute to courageous individuals such as Dr. Janusz Korczak, a Polish Jew and children’s advocate who was put in charge of the ghetto orphanage and cared for many who, like, Aron, had no one else to help them.
