James W. Pardew - Peacemakers: American Leadership and the End of Genocide in the Balkans

Upcoming Event
Sunday, January 14, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

When civil wars in former Yugoslavia reached the point of genocide with the killing of more than 8,000 unarmed men and boys in Srebrenica in July 1995, the world had to take action. Pardew, a former ambassador to Bulgaria, was appointed Secretary of Defense Representative to the U.S. Negotiating Team the following August and was a key figure in both diplomatic and military efforts to bring peace to the Balkans. His memoir is the first inclusive history of the multilateral intervention in the region, and his detailed account offers a model for future American engagement in humanitarian crises, particularly those now going on in Iraq and Syria.
