Conaway, author of two nonfiction books on the Napa Valley, uses the region as the setting of his fourth novel, the story of the self-assured wine critic Clyde Craven-Jones and a bottle of excellent Cabernet that seems to have appeared out of nowhere. But the wine does have a provenance, and as Craven-Jones tracks it down, Conaway tells a brisk tale of vintners, families, and secrets.
