Greg Mitchell - The Tunnels: Escapes Under the Berlin Wall and the Historic Films the JFK White House Tried to Kill

Upcoming Event
Sunday, October 30, 2016 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

The Berlin Wall was a year old when a group from the West —including a former gulag prisoner, a Stasi informer, and an American cyclist—tried to dig their way under it to liberate friends and relatives trapped in the East. Mitchell, an award-winning writer and a documentary film producer, interviewed many who participated in the plot and also consulted Stasi documents for this detailed narrative of the rescue effort. But the daring plan is only half the story. NBC and CBS raced each other to film the event, and even offered to fund a second tunnel—only to have their projects suppressed by the Kennedy administration, which feared inflaming East-West relations.
