The author of several local histories, Peck is also a tour guide and has been the inspiring presence at P&P’s seasonal beer-tasting events. His latest look at how Washingtonians quench their thirst goes back to 1796. The region’s first brewery produced a heavy British-style ale. Later, German immigrants served up lagers. Prohibition changed all that, and today’s craft beers have taken the beverage in yet new directions. (History Press)
