Dines, professor of sociology and women’s studies and chair of the American Studies Department at Wheelock College, argues that pornography is growing more extreme and more ubiquitous. She ties the increased commercialization of degrading and even brutal imagery to Fortune 500 companies and also cites porn’s widespread social effects, such as the ways it distorts sexual norms and turns its consumers into porn addicts.
