Cerphe Colwell and Stephen Moore - Cerphe's Up: A Musical Life

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Now a DJ with Music Planet Radio, Cerphe started his career with WHFS in the early 1970s. Rock was new to FM, and Cerphe pioneered the Bethesda station’s signature freeform style. He was an early champion of music by Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Lowell George, and Bruce Springsteen, among others, and his shows were themselves as creative and fresh as the music they broadcast. Looking back over his nearly fifty years in radio, Cerphe and co-author Stephen Moore, member of the Bethesda band The Razors, and co-author of biographies of Helen Hayes and Johnny Holliday, tells stories of the many musicians he’s known, recalls performances at clubs such as Childe Harold and Cellar Door, and recounts his experiences at WAVA, DC101, and WJFK.
