Dr. Rudolf Weigl (1883-1957) was a Polish scientist enlisted by the Nazis to come up with a vaccine for typhus. Making the most of his privileged position, Weigl used his Lwow lab not only for scientific research but as a headquarters for resistance. As Allen, author of Vaccine recounts, Weigl risked his life further by hiding individuals he couldn’t provide a plausible cover for employing. (W.W. Norton)
