The first daily daytime TV soap opera, These Are My Children, debuted in 1949, and the genre, building on the earlier popularity of radio serials, quickly became a staple of television programming. This collection of essays by soap stars, writers, and journalists, celebrates the popular pastime with a combination of insider looks at the shows and fans’ memories and musings. Here to share their thoughts and favorite soap opera moments are Aaron Hamburger, a teacher for P&P and the author of Faith for Beginners and The View from Stalin’s Head; Shara McCallum, a Jamaican-American poet, whose collections include Song of Thieves and the award-winning The Water Between Us; and Kyoko Mori, who teaches writing at George Mason University and has published four novels and three nonfiction books.
