Always a lively part of D.C., Dupont Circle in the years just before the First World War was home to a remarkable group of up-and-coming world-shapers. One house was home to the future Supreme court Justice Felix Frankfurter and the rising political writer Walter Lippman. The Dulles siblings lived nearby, as did Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, the writer William Bullitt, and Herbert Hoover. Srodes, author of books on Benjamin Franklin, Allen Dulles, and John Z. DeLorean, paints a vivid picture of this confluence of talents. Start: 7:00 pm

Join us for an evening of great summer fiction. Harrington’s debut novel tells the story of a geeky young woman’s first year at college. She may lack a few social graces, but her observations of her classmates are spot-on and very, very funny. Close’s first novel—now in paperback—focuses on a group of young women who put up with bad jobs and worse boyfriends as they find their ways in life. | 23
