In 1928 Elinor Smith was 17 and the youngest U.S. licensed pilot. After male flyers and newspapermen ridiculed her, she decided to show them up by flying under four New York City bridges. She accomplished this feat on October 21, 1928. Ms. Brown is a local author, librarian, and pilot.
