Thursday, December 3, 7 p.m. @ Sixth & I Historic Synagogue w/ HBE Greg Mortenson Stones Into Schools (Viking, $26.95) Large Print, Audio Greg Mortenson picks up where Three Cups of Tea left off in 2003, recounting his efforts to establish schools for girls in Afghanistan; his work in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan after a massive earthquake hit the region in 2005; and the unique ways he has built relationships with Islamic clerics, militia commanders, and tribal leaders. He shares his vision to promote peace through education and literacy. Please note: There is no special price for members, as participation in this event includes a donation to Greg Mortenson's foundation - Central Asia Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
