Stuever, a Washington Post journalist, starts with the crowds of shoppers on Black Friday and moves through the rituals of lights and decorations to chronicle how three suburban Dallas households have celebrated Christmas over three holiday seasons. Steuver says of his new book that “I wanted this story to be about Christmas but also everything else: our weird economy, our modern sense of home, our oft-broken hearts, and our notions of God."
